1095HC holds an edge very well and is optimum for hunting and skinning use as well as tactical and military tasks. The steel is very corrosive and will tarnish and turn the blade black when blood and acidic liquids or chemicals get onto the blade. The blade will still work fine but will lose the satin color when it is new.
